Teaching the Rebellious Obedience

Read: 2 Corinthians 10: 3-5 (NLT)

We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

Reflect:

I spoke with several people today about the current events going on all around us and noticed a common thread. None of them knew what to believe about anything. They feel they can’t trust what the read and they’re skeptical about what they see. It is no wonder. The world system in play all around us tends to bombard us with thoughts and ideas that usually contrast and are in conflict with what God has revealed to us through His word.

How can we take thoughts captive if we don’t first recognize the twist that our culture puts on our ability to change with God’s power? If I think I can’t change, am I limiting what God can do in my life?

In the passage above, Paul says there is “divine power to destroy strongholds.” You don’t know all the battles I face and I don’t know every detail of your life, but I believe God can and wants to bring about a transformation in each of us. That’s the idea behind one of the chapters I refer to again and again – Romans 12:2 –

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Respond:

  • Make a decision to live in freedom.
  • Obey Christ in all things.
  • Practice the Freedom that only comes through Christ.
