Much more than “little baby Jesus”

by | Dec 22, 2020 | Christmas | 0 comments

We love little baby Jesus, as NASCAR champion Ricky Bobby, in the movie “Talladega Nights,” reminds us. We adore Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothes, wise men bearing gifts, shepherds searching, angels singing. We love baby Jesus because he makes no moral claims on us.” –Robert Parman

From the moment He entered into life on earth, Jesus was more than a little baby.  Consider the titles Isaiah used for the Christ child

“And he will be called
   Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6b).

Wonderful Counselor – His wisdom is far beyond what man has to offer.  His guidance is available to all who will yield to Him.

Mighty God – Those who resist the deity of Christ might want to reconsider the words of Jeremiah 32: 18-19 – Great and mighty God, whose name is the LORD Almighty, great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds.

Everlasting Father – My study bible tells me that ” a “father” here is a benevolent protector, which is the task of the ideal king and is also the way God himself cares for his people”.

Prince of Peace – This week a man told me of how he asked someone if they had made their peace with God.  This is the role of the Prince of Peace. Only through Christ are we able to be saved from our sins and have lasting peace with God.

Let’s remember to look beyond the manger and see the freedom we have through the cross.
