Patience and Compassion

by | Aug 27, 2021 | Genuine Hope | 0 comments

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

2 Peter 3:9

Since the Garden of Eden, mankind has been living with anticipation of the triumph of Good over Evil. The first-century church expected Christ’s return during their lifetime and since I was young there has always been an anticipation of Christ’s return. So there’s no wonder that “scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation”(2 Peter 3:4).

Sound familiar? But, as Peter reminds us, “the Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise.” God is patient because of His great compassion for us, so while there is time we should-

“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake his way,and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”

Isaiah 55:6-7

Is there a scoffer or a skeptic in your life? Remember that God is willing and able to forgive and pardon, “not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
