Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.

Romans 12:11

If someone asked you to describe your greatest passion in life, what would your answer be? What is the first thing that comes to mind? If you’re reading this you probably think you should answer that you’re passionate about all things related to God. But, if you talk to anyone for a few minutes you will likely discover their passion. It kind of bubbles up to the surface.

In our society, there are many passions. We have entire television networks dedicated to sports, entertainment, food. You name it, but how would you really rank your passion for God at this moment?

A few years ago, I interviewed a young lady for a video that described the ignition of her passion for God at a youth camp as a teenager. She commented that some doubted the seriousness of the transformation in her life, but she told me (and those watching) she was determined to make her life count.

How? I noticed several points in her story. First, she told others about her passion. Some doubted, but others encouraged her in her faith. Second, she made a point to pursue her passion consistently. For her, she terminated some damaging relationships and sought the restoration of others. Third, she intentionally fed her passion. For this young lady, this meant attending Bible College instead of pursuing another career in the medical field. Finally, it’s been ten years since the rekindling of the passion in her life and she gives every indication of continued pursuit.

This weekend, let’s consider our passions by taking an honest look at what stimulates a spark in our lives.
