May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.
Romans 15:5-7
Recently, I attended a worship practice where I listened to the singers on stage practice the songs they would lead for the Sunday services. Everyone usually has a part to sing so that there is harmony among the voices. Not so on this particular day. There was one voice that seemed to be singing another song altogether and it was painful to hear.
I think that’s the point that Paul is getting at in the passage above. Life is more complicated than singing on key, but we generally know when things are out of sync in our relationships.
As followers of Christ, Paul reminds us to be dependent on God for “endurance and encouragement” so that we can collectively and individually live our lives in such a way that honors God and points others to Him.
How can you help another believer today?
