By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave directions concerning his bones.
Hebrews 11: 22
Among the characters revealed in Scripture, Joseph stands near the top in terms of the way he lived his life. Joseph accomplished much, but he also endured much as he was sold as a slave, unjustly accused and thrown into prision and then he emerged as the second in command over all of Egypt.
Scripture tells us he was faithful to God from the moment he was introduced to us until his final day. And his faith in God to keep His promises is evident in the Bible’s final reference to Joseph in the verse above. He believed Israel would leave Egypt and expected them to return his bones to the land of his people.
Joseph consistently took a longer view of things. From his first dream to his encounter with Potiphar’s wife and his reconciliation with his family, Joseph chose to honor God with his life.
So, as we enter another weekend, take some time to consider a couple of questions: How do I want to be remembered? Is the path I’m walking today headed in the desired direction?
