Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.

Isaiah 9:7

When our kids were growing up, one of our Christmas traditions was to see a movie as a family with some of our extended family. On three consecutive Christmas seasons, we watched each movie in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

My favorite was The Return of the King. It is satisfying to see Good triumph over Evil, isn’t it?

In the passage above, Isaiah describes the government of the promised Messiah. It will be a government of peace. There will be justice. There will be righteousness.

The Jewish people expected this Messiah. Some of my Jewish friends are still awaiting the arrival because they have rejected Jesus as the Messiah.

For those of us who follow Christ, we are also anticipating the Return of the King. Two thousand years ago, a child was born, a son was given. He sacrificed His life so we can live eternally. And if you believe, then you should be anticipating His promised return.

As John concluded The Book of Revelation, “Amen.Come, Lord Jesus!”(Revelation 22:20).
