Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
1 John 4:4
A promotional announcement for a popular tv preacher includes the preacher telling the audience that “there is a power inside you that is greater than anything that may come against you.” Maybe it was because of the delivery or my own bias, but that paraphrase of 1 John 4:4 seemed more like a motivational slogan than Scripture.
“He who is in you” is not a power or a force or a positive can-do attitude. For the follower of Christ, He is the Holy Spirit of God dwelling inside of us. He is greater.
On the other hand, Satan’s plan is to destroy or derail us he is at work to deceive, destroy, divide (I’m running out of “d” words.
Our foe is formidable, but he is not all powerful. Think of the obstacles in your path. Regardless of the origin, we should always be reminded of the power of the Holy Spirit within us as we follow Christ. Greater is He who is in us, than he who is in the world. It’s not even close.
