Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8: 12
It seems to happen more frequently these days – we meet a driver who is driving without turning on his headlights. With no apparent mechanical failure, they are driving completely unaware of the danger he is in and the danger he is creating for others. There is enough ambient light from the businesses, streetlights and other cars on the road, so it may be even more difficult for him to realize his situation. Has it ever happened to you?
You may have seen this coming, but how many people do you know who are wandering in spiritual darkness and are absolutely clueless?
While he wasn’t driving a car, I was reminded of Paul’s initial encounter with the risen Christ –
Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.” The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one.
Acts 9: 3-7
Jesus is the light of the world. First we see the light and then we are to reflect His light to the people around us. Like the moon’s dependence on the sun, we are completely dependent on Christ. Otherwise, there is really no light at all.
Think about those who are driving in the dark around you. Are you reflecting the Light?
