The people who walked in darkness
Isaiah 9:2
have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shone.
As we approach the Christmas season, we think of songs like “O Holy Night” and “Silent Night” and of course we think of the Christmas star that announced His coming to the Shepherds and later to the Wise Men who honored the Christ child.
For four hundred years, the people had been in spiritual darkness and then, at just the right time, God sent His son.
Today, we are not in the darkness. As followers of Christ we are not to linger in the darkness of this world. Consider Peter’s words –
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:13-16
Our Hope is in Christ. Our response is obedience and transformation of our lives.
