For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
Isaiah 55:8-9
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
I spend a fair amount of time driving from one appointment to another stop during the day. And so there is time to think if I will take advantage of the moment to consider topics beyond the usual everyday issues we all face.
Yesterday, we reviewed Isaiah’s response to the holiness of God and in the verse above we again find that try as we might, our thoughts are limited. God doesn’t think the way we do, so we can’t necessarily comprehend what He has in mind. We don’t understand His way of accomplishing His goals. He is holy and beyond us, yet He welcomes us.
In the preceding verses, Isaiah tells us –
“Seek the Lord while he may be found;
Isaiah 55: 6-7
call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
No matter how far away we may seem to be from God at the moment, His plan is to redeem and restore, to forgive and pardon.
