According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder, I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3: 10-11
Over the last year or so, our oldest son, Zach, has been engaged in the remodeling process of Patrina’s parent’s place in Crestwood. First, it was a rehab of the “cottage” and now he and his wife, Sowmya, are in the middle of a huge remodel of the main home on the property. Some walls have been opened and new ones have been built. Plumbing, electrical and they can confirm that a well-constructed home requires a solid foundation.
And so, as Paul describes in the verses above when it comes to spiritual truth, nothing is more that the infrastructure that underpins what we believe.
We’ll come across this later in the letter, but here is the foundation of our faith from Paul – “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15: 3-4).
There are many denominations, but only one Faith that is dependent on the truth rooted in the Gospel. Paul refers to himself as “like a skilled master builder.” How careful are we in building on the foundation of our faith?
