Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

1 Corinthians 15: 58

Today, we will join in for a Good Friday service at our church just as Christians around the world will take part in services or give some thought to the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus on the cross. But, as we’ve considered this week, the cross isn’t the end of the story and on Sunday we will celebrate the resurrection of Christ and it is in the resurrection that we have hope of something more, something better beyond this life.

You’ve heard many times that when you see the word “therefore” the word refers back to a previous thought. The verse above refers back to Paul’s entire argument for the resurrection of Christ and for the resurrection we all look forward as promised in Scripture. How are we to respond? Paul gives two answers followed by a promise –

• Stand firm in your faith. Don’t be distracted by life’s circumstances. Make Christ’s kingdom the purpose of your life, pointing others to the promise of salvation.
• Because of Christ’s resurrection, we know that our life has a purpose based on His promise.

My prayer is that this Easter is meaningful for each one of us in a way that makes a noticeable change in our lives long after the Holiday weeked.
