A reliable word?

What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: “So that you may be proved right when you speak
and prevail when you judge.”

Romans 3:3-4

Did God really say is more than a tactic used by the serpent as part of the Fall of Mankind. It is a theological question that is at the root of many of the issues we face today, perhaps all of the issues. Theologians may discuss the topic in scholastic terms, but the question is one of authority and for us it revolves around the truths of the Bible and this question is at the root of our faith.

It’s different that during the time in the Garden. There is no serpent whispering to us, but there are plenty of voices challenging the thought that we can depend on what God says. Do we? We may nod and affirm the idea and most of us can remember the message of Paul to Timothy, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

Do we believe it when the world around us questions the Bible’s authority? While this question applies to everyone, I am thinking in terms of those of us who describe ourselves as followers of Christ?

Did God really say that faith in Jesus is the one and only way for salvation of mankind? (John 14:6) When the world around us says that this message is too exclusive, how do we respond?

Can we depend on Jesus’ words in the third chapter of John?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son

John 3:16-18

Let us resolve to hold on to the words from Paul, “Let God be true and every man a liar.” He is dependable. Man is not.
