And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:9-10
Our grandsons are in from Arizona this week and after three days of non-stop activities, we are ready for two more days! I’m feeling a bit tired, but I am not weary in the sense Paul is describing in the verses above. In fact, spending time with those three boys reminds me of my most important task and only daily opportunity since they are so far away most of the year. And so I will continue my focus on prayer for them daily.
In the verses above Paul reminds us to –
- Be proactive by being about the business of doing good to everyone as the opportunity presents itself, especially those who are fellow Christ-followers. For a moment, think about where and what you are sowing, and on this day be determined to plant good seed going forward.
- Be encouraged. Paul reminds us there will be a harvest “in due time”. More often than not, we must wait. Remember these two things: God’s timetable is often different than ours and it is God who brings about the harvest.
- Be faithful. The principles of sowing and reaping address our attitudes as well. Those who refuse to give up or lose heart are determined to do more than survive. The faithful follower learns to thrive in the process.
Are you feeling a bit weary of life’s challenges? Here’s a final reminder of encouragement –
