For we cannot oppose the truth, but must always stand for the truth.
2 Corinthians 13:8
As I continued to think about the church in Philadelphia addressed by Christ in Revelation, I see a church that simply stood for the truth in spite of the changing circumstances in the culture around them.
This afternoon I spent some time with one of my customers who brought up some of the conflicts she encounters in balancing her faith while trying to help her patients. She recognizes she can’t oppose the truth of the Gospel and so her interactions are often an opportunity for her to do two things – empathize with her patient’s needs while helping steer them to honorable ways of thinking about their lives instead of sanctioning their often destructive mindset and actions.
There are lines that should not be crossed and I think that is the underlying message in the single verse above. Paul was challenging the church in Corinth to be mature in their faith by doing the right thing at all times and standing for the truth.
How can we stand for truth today as we go about our day-to-day activities?
