Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Psalm 139: 7-10
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
When my grandsons were younger, each one of them would cover his eyes believing that if he could not see you, you could not see him!
How often do we think we can hide from God? When I read the passage above, my mind moved to the life of the prophet, Jonah who made every effort to do just that – hide from God!
As David writes so descriptively above, the Bible tells us of God’s omnipresence. God is everywhere, but don’t mistake God’s omnipresence with the basic idea of pantheism that teaches that God is in everything and everything is God. No, God is everywhere at once, but not everything is God.
So, the final lines above provide us with David’s comfort – no matter where David was, God was there leading him and God had David supported by His strong right hand, indicating God’s strength and support in David’s life.
