When you think of the word instigator, what comes to mind? Usually, the word is associated with the negative impact of a troublemaker or an agitator. Keeping things stirred up in a negative way is very easy. I know which buttons to push (and not to push) to stimulate a response. It doesn’t take much thought or effort.

But in the passage above it is clear that the encouragement to spur one another is intended to be positive.

Think: initiate or motivate.

It’s important to note that he calls us to “consider how we may spur one another” in our faith. We should give it some thought as to how we will initiate or motivate others to live a life of love, filled with good works. One of the goals of these daily thoughts is to stir you up to a deeper relationship with Christ. I know we’re busy, but even a few minutes during the day can make a difference.
