Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
Hebrews 13:4
When Gods says don’t, He means don’t hurt yourself – James MacDonald
I don’t follow James MacDonald these days, but I did appreciate his teaching over the last fifteen years or so. The point he is making is that what we may call God’s instruction restrictive, are really intended for our good. God is for us, not against us.
So, when we read a verse like the one above, we can understand that God is for marriage. It was his idea and so marriage is to be honored and kept pure. And if we choose otherwise? God will judge our immorality and our adulterous hearts.
Recently, I’ve encountered more broken marriages than I have fingers (still have all 10). It is heartbreaking as I close my eyes and see their faces and the faces of their kids. I think of the broken lives and vows and the children who are, without exception, taking the news in stride. Amazingly, we rationalize our behavior, don’t we?
Marriage is sometimes difficult for some if not all of us, right? Who hasn’t faced a challenge that could drive us apart instead of bringing us together?
Marriage is not a convenience, marriage is a commitment.
So let’s remember that when God says marriage is to be honored and kept pure, he has the best in mind for each of us.
Don’t hurt yourself and remember the ones you pledged to love.
