Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
Hebrews 1: 1-4
Last year, Patrina and I were in New Mexico visiting some friend’s mission work with the Navajo Indians. Once we turned off the power supplying the overhead light near our camper, you could see stars of the Milky Way clearly. It was quite a site to observe those heavenly lights without the interference of the man-made light.
In the opening verses of the Hebrews, we observe the greatest light in Jesus Christ, “the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.”
In another passage, Paul declares that “He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together” (Colossians 1:7).
As we enter this weekend, let’s consider the true Light of the world and how we can reflect that light to others.
