All or nothing

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12: 30-31

If the Bible has the final word on our lives, then we should pursue a life that honors God, don’t you think?

Instead of a long list of do’s and don’t’s, a life that is aligned with God’s best for us is found in the passage above. To summarize the two points, we are to first love God and then we are to love others. It’s that simple and it is that complicated as well.

How do we express our love for God? First, I think we spend time with Him in awe of the One who quite literally created us and all that exists. Second, living in awe includes honoring God with how we live our lives. He alone is God, there is no other. We are to worship Him alone. He is to take first place in every aspect of our lives.

Secondly, we are to love our neighbor. How do we demonstrate that love? We tell the truth. We are content with what we have and we do not take what is not ours. We take care of those we can help. We point all of them to the God we love and serve.

According to the words of Christ above, it all begins with a deep and abiding love for the LORD. When we love God with all our hearts, our souls, our minds, our strength it encompasses every aspect of our life.

What one action will you take to confirm your love for God going forward?
