He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
Isaiah 53:7
yet he opened not his mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his mouth.
Have you ever face a situation where you resisted the impulse to defend yourself so that you held your peace and bit your tongue? Now, imagine being completely innocent. In the case of Christ, He has a mission to accomplish and the false accusations of others. He said nothing in His defense. Notice the response below –
Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You have said so.” But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed.
Matthew 27:11-14
He gave no answer to a single charge. Why?
Isaiah tells us of the LORD’s commitment to save us from our sins –
Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him;
Isaiah 53:10
he has put him to grief;
when his soul makes an offering for guilt,
he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
Instead of being cut off from generations permanently (Isaiah 53:8), there are countless numbers of human beings who have eternal life through His sacrifice.
