The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
In a sales meeting my team was asked to define “impact”. One of the definitions was to “influence strongly forward a specific action.” We all want to make an impact with our lives, don’t we?
Think about it for a moment. Can we truly make a lasting impact unless the Word of God is doing the same in our lives? Do we allow the Scripture to speak into every part of our life? Our truthfulness? Finances? Sexuality? Entertainment? Relationships? Is there anything or anyone that is off-limits?
Consider these familiar passages:
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
“When you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.”
1 Thessalonians 2:13
The Scripture intends to make a maximum impact in our everyday lives so that we can then impact those around us. But first, the work is done inside of us. The Word is sharp. The Word pierces. The Word discerns what we’re thinking and what motivates our actions.
Let’s do more than pay lip service to the power and influence of God’s Word in our lives. To make an impact we must allow Him to transform us by renewing our minds so that we live in such a way that brings honor to His Name.
