Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:19-23
For the first nine chapters of Hebrews, the writer makes the case for the superiority of Christ beyond religion, ritual, heritage, or anything else. Christ accomplished what the Law could not. This is good news!
With that foundation, Hebrews gives us some practical teaching on what it means to be faithful.
When we come to salvation through Christ, God gives us a new inside–and then He gives us a new outside in the process of sanctification.
- Let us draw near to God.
- Let us hold fast to our confession.
- Finally, let us remember that “He who promised is faithful.”
I am reminded of this promise from Paul’s letter to the Philippians –
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6
