Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed
Hebrews 12:12-13
Over the past couple of months, I’ve been working with a physical therapist to strengthen my knees. By the time I finish an hour, I can relate to the passage above. I am often exhausted.
In the opening verses of Hebrews 12, we are called to “run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.”
Tonight, I took another step in my progress by playing Pickleball for the first time (ever). I’m a little competitive and this was a good experience even though I was less than sensational as a player. Being on the court will help me stay focused on that physical goal.
In the spiritual race, the writer of Hebrews describes our goal as singular. We are to simply make Christ the goal of our lives. I am reminded of a key scripture for me –
“But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3: 13b-14
If you’re weary, lift up those drooping hands. Strengthen your knees so you can keep moving forward. Follow the straight path and keep your focus on Christ.
