When everything is shaken

by | Jun 18, 2024 | Genuine Hope | 0 comments

See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven. At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.

Hebrews 12:25-29

Already this year we’ve seen lots of shaking in our world. Political unrest and national elections are on the way. Natural disasters. Economic woes. Famine. War. And we are not quite half-way through 2024.

But even if the world shakes, there is one thing that is unshakable.

The writer of Hebrews tells us that when all the shaking is said and done only “what cannot be shaken may remain.”

What remains? The Kingdom of God. And as believers, we are part of His kingdom and we are looking forward to the fulfillment of God’s promised Kingdom.

So how should we respond to this message?

  • Accept the message of God. (verse 25)Be grateful (verse 28) for the eternal Kingdom of God by living lives that honor Him.
  • Worship God with reverence and awe (verse 28) and remember that worship is more than singing a few songs on Sunday.
  • Worship can be practiced in everything we do today as we give honor to God within our relationships, at our jobs, and at home.

Think about it. As the world around us is being shaken, what will our lives say about our faith in God?
