A final charge to do what is right

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things. I urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that I may be restored to you the sooner.

Hebrews 13:16-19

The writer of Hebrews concludes his message with three related thoughts.

First, we are reminded to be generous people, doing what is good to others and sharing our lives and what we have. Patrina and I have been reminded of the importance of being connected with others and we are being intentional in our efforts.

Second, we are to follow trusted leaders. Last week I wrote about how we should be careful as to who we follow, but those who lead with a biblical foundation deserve to be honored, don’t they?

Finally, the writer of Hebrews requests prayer from the believers. Do you have a method or pattern of praying for others? A couple of years ago, I began a prayer list using an app on my phone. It is my practice to pray through that ever-growing list early in the morning.

Following Christ is more than knowing and believing the right things. It is also living in light of what has been revealed to us.
