Learning to live a truly full life

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:16-17

This morning the pastor referred to the verse above almost in passing as he taught primarily from Galatians, but as I thought about these words it related to what we’ve been considering from the short passage in Matthew 11:28-30.

Jesus urged His listeners then and now to “learn from Him.” Jesus taught many things – how to approach God in prayer, and how to live a life dedicated to God. He challenged the norms of the day with His teaching on divorce and hatred. We can study His parables, read His sermons, observe His interactions, and as Paul tells us, we can then “let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.

Richly. What does that mean? In Paul’s usage, it refers to fully experiencing the word of Christ in your life. It is learning to love and obey Him so fully that we can then follow with Paul’s next verse “Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Our lives are to be fully immersed in Christ.
