Faithfulness is proven over time

“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.”

Luke 16:10

For those of us who are or have been married, we remember that when a husband and wife enter into marriage, they expect that each will be faithful to the other and this is much more than marital fidelity. A faithful spouse will make decisions that prove their commitment over time.

You know what it means to be faithful and as followers of Christ, we follow One who has proven to be faithful. God does what He promises. We can trust Him.

Hebrews 6:18 reminds us of this truth – “So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.”

Likewise, a faithful person reflects the faithfulness of God. Faithfulness means that we are trustworthy, committed, dependable, and unswerving. A faithful person is true to God and the people in his/her life.

The verse above reminds us that faithfulness can be measured accurately even in the smallest areas of life. We don’t wait until the “big” opportunity arrives to be faithful. Moment by moment we have opportunities to be faithful in the “little” things of life.

So how dependable are we to those who know us best?
