Make My Life a Prayer

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Ephesians 5:1-2

Keith Green’s “Make My Life a Prayer to You” came to mind when I read the verses above today.

Make my life a prayer to you
I wanna do what you want me to
No empty words and no white lies
No token prayers no compromise
I wanna shine the light you gave
Through your son you sent to save us
From ourselves and our despair
It comforts me to know you're really there

Paul uses the concept of walking again and again in his writings as our faith in Christ should be reflected in the way we live our lives. And what does that look like? Paul begins his answer this way -

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

Ephesians 5:3-4

Earlier this week I learned of another Christian leader who at the very least failed on the first topic on Paul’s list by being involved in more than “a hint of sexual immorality.”

We may think we’re immune to such things, but read through the entire list including the words that come off the tip of our tongue.

Can we really say or sing, “make my life a prayer to you?”
