Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.
Ephesians 6:9
Recently there was a threatened strike among longshoremen who handle much of the imported goods we consume here in the U.S. While it has only been temporarily resolved, it is representative of the conflict we often see between owners/management and those who work for companies.
Outside of our families, we spend a lot of our lives in the workplace so there is a great opportunity for those who own businesses to reflect a Christ-like attitude toward those who perform the work.
In the passage above, Paul is reminding the masters of the need to display the essence of the Golden Rule to those who work on their behalf –
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them.”
Matthew 7:12a
Whether you’re an employer or an employee, it is sobering to remember that there is “no partiality” with God and we should treat others as we would like to be treated in every instance.
