To-do, to-be

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:1,2

As 2025 gets started, I have quite a list of tasks to be accomplished as I wrap up my responsibilities at Lundbeck and transition to what’s next and as a result, I’ve been working through a to-do list that is a bit more extensive than normal as I’ve had several meetings and decisions over the past week or so mixed in with significant family time.

This morning I listened to another message from Chip Ingram because the title of today’s podcast intrigued me – Recalibrating Your Walk with God. Several minutes into his talk, Chip discussed something he communicated to his staff regarding their “to-do lists) He said, “Your job’s really important, and family’s really important, and there’s a lot of pressure in your life, but you’ll never get your to-do’s done. So think about making a to-be list.”

He’s right. What we do is important. Our family and our friends are important, but maybe we should consider what it would mean to create a ” “to-be list.”

What kind of person do you want to be? What kind of Christian do you want to be? Does your to-do list move you forward with your to-be list?

I’ve written about the passage above many times and I’ve read and thought about it even more, but what can I do today that will help transform and renew my mind? Should I give something up or try something new?
