Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Matthew 28:19-20
Yesterday, Patrina and I had lunch with a younger couple, and part of the conversation centered on the idea that the church today focuses more on the production of Sunday experiences than on creating a community that builds disciples. After all, that is the mandate delivered by Christ, first to His immediate followers and then to us.
How do we move past the show and build disciples?
Tozer goes on to list several indicators I will mention here:
- Deep Reverance – Tozer describes this aspect as necessary to be receptive to God.
- Moral Sensitivity – Paul describes this thought in Romans 12:9 as we are called to “abhor what is evil and hold fast to what is good.
- Spiritual Hunger – are we cultivating a spiritual appetite or are we already filled by other things in our liffe?
This week I hope to expand further on this idea as we start 2025.
