In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5: 16
Part of living a “discipled” life is expressed by how we live. What does it mean to shine your light before others?
Pastor David Wilkerson once wrote about two women in his church who worked for the CEO of a New York company. The CEO said these two women were different, in a positive way. They “were always courteous, smiling, helpful to others, never complaining or backbiting. There’s something different about them,” he said. “I would like to meet with you to find out what the difference is.”
And when he spoke with David Wilkerson, I am sure he discovered what made the “difference” in those women.
Wilkerson noted that it would not have been likely that this man would have accepted an invitation to church. He might not have read a book on the truth of the Christian faith. This man “responded to a true light – a light born of Christ and being lived out daily in the lives of these two faithful women…God help us to remember that the light shines through in the little things of life.”
The little things. The man Wilkerson described learned about the Gospel directly through an indirect reflection of light by two women who did the little things.
How often do we pay attention to those little things that make a difference: being courteous to others, avoiding speaking ill of others, and doing a job without complaining?
