Read: John 13:34-35

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.  By this, all people will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another.

Reflect:

During the Super Bowl, I watched with great anticipation, one particular commercial.  It began with these words….

The Ancient Greeks had four words for love.

The commercial goes on to describe those four words –

• Philia – Love that grows out of friendship
• Storge – Love within your family
• Eros – Love expressed between a husband and wife
• Agape – Love as an action

Our families need to hear love expressed by words, but they also need to see the evidence of our commitment in the ways we act in love.

In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul described the kind of love that acts –

• Be truthful with each other (Ephesians 4:25)
• Be willing to share with others in need instead of taking (Ephesians 4:28)
• Let your words be an example to others. (Ephesians 4:29)
• Be kind and forgiving to one another (Ephesians 4:32)

Respond:

Choosing to love our families is a life-changing choice. If you’ve already made that choice renew your commitment again. Today let us deliberately choose to express our love for our families by telling and showing them what matters most to us.
