Lots of people believe in God, but how many of us simply believe God and take Him at His word? The proof is in our lives. James 2:19 tells us that even the demons believe in God, but by their rebellion, it is evident that they didn’t believe God. They did not trust Him.

The Galatians were in danger of the same kind of rebellion by attempting to “be perfected by the flesh”. Sure, Christ had saved them, but His sacrifice wasn’t enough. No, the Galatians were being misled that the work of Christ on the cross wasn’t enough for their complete freedom. Consider today’s passage from Galatians-

Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”? Galatians 3:2-6

Notice that Paul quotes Genesis 15:6, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” Do you understand the difference? Abraham took God at his word. He believed and then he acted according to his belief.

Let’s start today by honoring God by believing the promises delivered through Christ and acting “in accordance” with those promises today.
