Sowing and Reaping the Consequences

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life

Galatians 6:7-8

“No one can escape the endless cycle of sowing and reaping. If you want your life to get to a better place, you have to make better choices – God-honoring choices.” – Jim Cymbala – The Brooklyn Tabernacle

The principle of sowing and reaping applies to everything we do because our actions do have consequences.  As Paul wrote, the seeds sown in the “flesh will from the flesh reap corruption.  On the other hand the one “sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”

Paul has already discussed the works of the flesh in chapter five in three major categories: sexual sin, idolatry and the sins affecting relationships.  None of them end up in a good place, do they?

But the fruit of the Spirit is God’s transforming power in our lives, God allows us to participate in the process.

“Sow a thought, reap and act; sow an act, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.” – Charles Reade
