If you have ever sent or received a text message or posted your thoughts on some social media site like Facebook, you realize there are not a lot of grammatical rules.  Most of the time people spell like those who type with their thumbs, but if you type in ALL CAPS LIKE THIS PEOPLE WILL TAKE NOTICE  AND ASSUME YOU ARE SHOUTING AT THEM!!!

Nearly two thousand years ago, the Apostle Paul used a similar technique. He had one final point to make to the Galatians, and while he had likely dictated the rest of the letter, he wrote the final few verses – “See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand.”

Some speculate as to why Paul wrote in such large letters saying Paul’s eyesight was poor that he wrote the original Giant Print Bible.  This may be true, but I think Paul was also writing to personally emphasize his final comments.

What did he want to say? 

Paul’s final words summarized the message to the Galatians. First, he warned of the danger of the false teachers as had throughout the epistle. Second, Paul clearly stated the central theme of the Gospel:

“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation” (Galatians 6:14-15).

A New Creation

As we leave Galatians and enter into the Christmas season let’s remember that the birth of the Savior was just the beginning of His work to redeem us and make us new.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
