So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.
1 Corinthians 10:31-33
Why should we care about what others think of the way we live our lives? How much?
In the passage above, Paul reminds us that his primary goal in every word he spoke and every action he took was for others, whether they were of his Jewish heritage or not, so that “they may be saved.”
When Jesus said that we are the “light of the world,” he didn’t intend for us to be nothing more than Puritan moralists. He intended that we shine our lights before men so that they will in turn give glory to God.
In another place, Paul wrote that “I have become all things to all people, that by all means, I might save some” (1 Corinthians 9:22).
Winning people to Christ is the heart of the Gospel and while the words we speak matter, let’s not allow our actions to diminish the Light. Instead, do everything as if it is for God and people will notice the difference.
