So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12
When our grandsons were a little younger they had some trouble with the concept of time. I remember hearing them ask, “How many sleeps until Nina and Pop go home?”
For most of us, the time is too short, especially as we grow older. The years seem to pass faster (does it seem it should be August already?).
A couple of weeks ago we read in Psalm 139:16 that the LORD has numbered our days. He knows when the end of this life will come. Thankfully, we do not know when we will breathe our last, but we should value our days.
I remember a song from Andrae Crouch entitled No Time to Lose –
No time to lose, No time to waste, No time for living in sin, living in sin I wanna be ready when Jesus comes Ready when Jesus comes
I don’t know if Christ will return before my days are finished or not, but the Psalmist reminds us that once we realize that our time is limited, “we may get a heart of wisdom.” In other words, we will learn to value our time. Do we?
I spend a lot of time each day driving from place to place and then waiting to speak to this healthcare provider and then another. Am I making the most of the time given me or am I just filling time before another sleep? What about you?
