Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 

1 Peter 4:10

The life of a follower of Christ should be one of service, don’t you agree? As I read the verse above I took note of the last phrase, “as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

We tend to think that the most important gifts are those of preaching or teaching, but there are so many ways to be a faithful steward. I am reminded of Paul’s words to the Romans –

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement;if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Romans 12: 4-8

The list doesn’t represent all of the gifts God has blessed us with and many have one or more of gifts. The question is are we using them? When we sit on the sidelines and refuse to get in the game, every one suffers.
