So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
Luke 2:16-18
A friend of mine shared a video of his very elaborate Christmas lights, complete with a soundtrack all because of his love for all things Christmas. This time of the year he is known to have a Santa mannequin in his car as well. It may sound more than a little extreme, but I can appreciate his enthusiasm.
Imagine the feeling experienced by the shepherds following their encounter with the angels. First, notice that they acted on what they were told as they “hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in a manger” (just as the angel said),
Second, the shepherds shared the good news announced by the angels and fulfilled by the baby Jesus they found.
Finally, everyone who heard the Good News was amazed. The people of Israel were familiar with the prophecies of the coming Messiah, but how many were expecting such a humble beginning for their Savior?
Like the shepherds, we have the opportunity to share the joy of the season. Let’s look for an open window in a conversation today.
