The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5
This evening Patrina and I learned the value of light as we traveled along some poorly lighted mountain roads in Eastern Tennesse. None of us would seriously consider driving in the dark without headlights, especially in unfamiliar places.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus is introduced as both the Word and the Light. As the Light to the world, he bought us and brought us out of the darkness of our hearts. Paul described that change in his letter to the church at Ephesus –
For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.
Ephesians 5:8-11
That is the purpose of the light of Christ. He brought us out of darkness to follow Him and walk in the light with “all that is good and right and true”. How is the light of Christ shining to those around you?
