Have you not known? Have you not heard?
Isaiah 40:28-31
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
I remember how my kids and now my grandsons grow impatient when asked to wait. “How long until we get there?” “When can we go play?” “How much longer!?!”
And I wonder how often I still sound like that when I call out to God.
It seems that I’ve been in a season of waiting for some time now on some very specific issues and so I am encouraged when I read the verses above.
I need to remember just who the LORD is today just as he was in Isaiah’s day. Read these lines again and remember they apply to our lives today –
When I depend on me, I grow tired and weary like the young men, especially now that I’m not quite as young. But, if I wait (or depend) on the LORD, my strength will be renewed.
