Taken for granted and neglected?

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

Hebrews 2:1-4

When do you realize that you have taken something or someone for granted? Even the smallest seemingly insignificant things can be taken for granted until they are no longer around. Remember the last time your internet service was down, maybe after a storm? How about when your cell phone suddenly went missing?

On a personal level, have you ever felt taken for granted? Feel underappreciated by someone close to you or in your job? Think of how Christ feels when He has done everything for us. The writer of Hebrews warns us that “we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it… how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?

What do you think of this quote from David Wilkerson?

How quickly we forget God’s great deliverances in our lives. How easily we take for granted the miracles he performed in our past.

David Wilkerson

Take a minute or two or thirty and reflect on what Christ’s sacrifice means in your everyday life today and the impact of yesterday and tomorrow.
