As it is said,
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
Hebrews 3:15-18
When the writer of Hebrews tells us about the failure of the nation of Israel to simply believe and trust God, he warns of what may happen to us if we follow the same route in our relationship (or lack of one) with God.
Consider the history of Israel. Those who were liberated in the Exodus followed a Cloud by day and a Pillar of Fire by Night. They walked across the Red Sea on dry land.
They received fresh water out of a rock….manna and quail to eat…miracle after miracle….time after time…God never let them down
Yet day after day the people failed in one simple and tragic area. Hebrews warns us through their lives as they hardened their heats and rebelled with an unbelieving heart. It was not an empty threat. They went “astray in their heart; they have not known my ways. As I swore in my wrath, they shall not enter my rest.”
How can someone see all of the blessings of God and still have an unbelieving heart?
Will we heed the warning we read in the passage above? Take some time to think about the ways God has moved in your life today. Be encouraged that He is for you and embrace what He has for you today.
