Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:14-16
Right now….Today….This minute.
We live in a world that lives for the right now and isn’t noticeably concerned about what happens 5, 10, or 50 years from now. This same mentality has crept into the church today.
The Christian life is not a sprint or a brief moment in time. We are called to live for the long-term benefits of following Christ. That’s why the writer of Hebrews tells us again to “hold fast to our confession.”
If we do, then we can have confidence in the One who is our LORD because Christ lived as one of us. He faced all the challenges of being human even though He was still God. The psalmist reminds us –
For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.
Psalm 103:14
Have you ever been reluctant to share a weakness with a friend or your spouse? Not so with Christ. He can sympathize with our weaknesses because, in every respect of life, He has been “tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
Imagine that for a moment. Whatever you are facing on this day – Christ can relate. Instead of feeling alone or abandoned we “are encouraged to come close to God to receive Mercy and Grace…thanks to Christ.
I need some Mercy and Grace today. How about you?
