In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
Hebrews 8:13
What comes to mind when you think of the word obsolete?
Here’s a partial list I scribbled down earlier today:
- A Horse and Buggy
- My first 35mm camera
- Typewriters (Manual or Electric)
- Rotary Phones
- My first cell phone
- My first computer
- My latest computer
Hebrews 8: 13 tells us how Christ has made the law obsolete…
“In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.”
But unlike the latest cell phone or self-parking car, when Jesus made the old covenant obsolete, he did it “once for all”.
When Jesus died on the cross He said “It is finished”. His work is absolutely complete. It will never be obsolete.
And so I am reminded that every faith tradition will eventually bow the knee to the supremacy of Christ.
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:9-10
