You will say in that day:
Isaiah 12: 1-2
“I will give thanks to you, O LORD,
for though you were angry with me,
your anger turned away,
that you might comfort me.
Last week we read the words of Isaiah as he stood in the presence of the LORD and recognized his sin, then was redeemed.
As I thought about the passage above on my way home this evening, I thought of the times that I have failed quite miserably to live up to God’s standard and I can relate to the idea of feeling God’s anger, but I can also attest to the fact that God saves despite our sin.
Paul wrote about this idea in his letter to the Romans:
“None is righteous, no, not one;
Romans 3:10-12
no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”
But there is hope.
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
Romans 5: 6-10
On that day when we stand before our Creator, we can stand in confidence thanks to Christ’s death for us, the ungodly.
