Read: Acts 11: 24-26

24…And a great many people were added to the Lord.
25 So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul,
26 and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a great many people. And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.

Reflect:

What is Discipleship 2.0?  When there is an advancement in computer software, developers often attach a number to the improved version. When Barnabas went looking for Saul, he recognized that help was needed to truly disciple the large number of people coming to know Christ in Antioch. For a whole year the people were taught and their lives were changed dramatically as they grew as true disciples of Christ.

A Disciple is defined as a personal follower of Jesus Christ. A Disciple is one who dies to himself daily in order to live for Christ and it is reflected in the choices we make. I received this quote from a devotional from the late David Wilkerson a couple of days ago: the disciple is “a person who isn’t moved by threats of hellfire, or even by rewards. He needs no prophet to shake him, no warnings of judgment. He is in love with Jesus and his obedience to God’s Word is a natural outgrowth of this love. It is as natural to him as breathing.”

Reflect:
Isn’t it interesting that it is at Antioch not Jerusalem where believers are first called Christians? It was not the result of an ad campaign or a cross worn around the neck or a WWJD bracelet. A Disciple loves his teacher and lives to please Him.  Can we be called disciples?
